In today’s modern world it is more important now than ever before to share the message of Jesus Christ. Add a difficult boss or company policies and sharing God’s grace just got a little bit trickier. If you find yourself in this situation you may be feeling like those in Christian jobs have the best platform for ministering . . . however, with a few simple tips you too can share your faith in the workplace and find a way to be His hands and feet . . . even when it seems like the impossible.
Don’t Conform
“Be ye transformed through the renewing of your mind.” Romans 12:2
Just because your company doesn’t allow certain faith based sharing doesn’t mean that you are supposed to be “just” like everyone else. Separate yourself. This doesn’t mean not becoming part of team but it does mean setting a holy example for those around you. If others participate in gossip . . . don’t take part. If some of your co-workers bad mouth the boss – don’t follow suit. Remember that actions speak louder than words and just because you can’t “speak” Jesus to them like you could in Christian jobs – doesn’t mean they can’t meet Him through your actions.
Start a Worry Jar
“Bear one another’s burdens.” Galatians 6:2
If a prayer jar is out of the question for your company’s policy consider starting a “worry jar”. Then, commit to pray for each of those issues either daily or weekly. When you can’t share your faith aloud, it’s comforting to know that God CAN when you take those needs to Him in prayer and allow Him to work through you.
Reach Out
“You are the light of the world.” Matthew 5:14
Consider inviting a co-worker to a church based event. This is often an easier way of introducing your faith. Even though you may not be working in Christian jobs, you have an advantage that many in the field do not. You have been sent into a lost world and have a very important pulpit . . . one that doesn’t know Him.
Many people have a predisposition of what it means to be Christian. Many think we are finger-wagging, no-fun-at-all, stick in the muds. But if you invite someone to a church baseball game, this seems a lot less intense than inviting them to church and a lot less intimidating to those with that mindset. Once they see how laid back or inviting your church congregation is, they are more likely to come to God’s House.
Start Again
“Shake the dust from your feet.” Matthew 10:14
When all else fails, if you are unhappy in your workplace consider applying for Christian jobs. In this economy and age of world disaster, Christian jobs are among the most in demand careers. From missionaries who aid hurricane victims in third world countries . . . to those who are right here on the home-front teaching our children in Sunday school, delivering hot meals to elderly seniors and preaching from our pulpits telling us exactly what we needed to hear . . . there are always a bevy of Christian jobs that need filling and serve an awe-inspiring purpose.
No matter where you are, no matter what you do . . . remember that you are a shining example of Him. When you do . . . no matter what job you acquire . . . you’ll do it with grace.
