Christian Jobs Are Out There

We think of a Church as a Sunday morning place.  We imagine our Pastor working a few hours during the week on the message that he will share with us and perhaps we all gather on Wednesday evenings for fellowship and study.  But when it comes to thinking about Christian jobs, it is not something many of us think of right away.

However, if you are on a Christian job search and are interested in using the gifts and talents that God gave you to help others, then this is a industry that you don’t want to skip over.

Some of the Christian jobs that are available in larger churches and organizations include:

  • Senior Pastor
  • Associate Pastor
  • Youth Pastor
  • Christian Education Director
  • Director of Small Group Ministries
  • Student Ministries Pastor
  • Church Administrator
  • Office Manager
  • Receptionist
  • Pastoral Administrative Assistant
  • Facilities Manager
  • Church Custodian
  • Church Accountant/Bookkeeper
  • Missions Secretary

Many Christian jobs require no formal training or education.  However, some jobs, such as a Office Manager or Church Administrator, will require experience in a unrelated field.

Christian jobs aren’t limited to only Churches though.  Christian organizations can come in many different sizes, forms and categories; just like those of workers.

What are some?

®    Working at a not for profit ministry such as a local food bank or donor station

®    Christian teaching at schools and academies

®    Staffing at a Christian daycare

®    Counseling at a Christen camp

®    Working in the office at such organizations as Southern Baptist Association or The Salvation Army

®    Working at a Christian bookstore or gift shop

Regardless of the business, organization or Church that you want to work at, the important thing to remember is that you are doing His work for His people.  You are His vessel and you want to honor Him in all you do.

This means being truthful on your resume and applications, presenting yourself truthfully, and remembering that we are all human.  You may see or hear things when working in a Christian job that goes against what you believe, but if you can remember that only God and His Son are perfect, then you will do fine.  (Yes, even those in pastoral jobs sometimes have bad days)

God promises to guide us, and that includes on our job search path.  It is up to you if you decide to follow His guidance to see where he is leading you.

Regardless of if you are working a Christian job or a job in the regular sector, meditate on Colossians 3:23-24  God tells us what we are to do and for whom we are to do it for…in whatever we do….

“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving”
