Position Summary:
- Serve as the overall coordinator of BPC’s ministry to Middle and High School youth as well as Director of Family Ministry
- Seek to inspire youth in the Cornelius and surrounding areas to develop lifelong, intimate relationships with Jesus Christ, and to serve as active members of God’s family.
- Identify, develop and implement strategies to integrate youth ministry into the overall life of the church
- Recruit, train, and support adult leaders who will serve in the Middle/High School ministry
- Equip and nurture families in practices leading to healthy family living and spiritual maturity
- Devise strategies to guide and strengthen families during key times of transition such as marriage, birth, adolescence, graduation, empty nest, and aging parents.
- Identify issue of concern for today’s families and create ministry opportunities to address those concerns.
- Provide opportunities for families to serve together in meaningful ways to impact the community for Christ
- Ensure that all programs, events, and goals of the Bethel Youth and Family Ministry reflect the larger mission statement of Bethel Presbyterian Church.
- Assist in worship leadership and preach occasionally
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Work with the Director of Christian Education, Senior Pastor, and Committee Chairs to provide discipleship training for all age groups.
- Develop positive relationships with youth and their families, recognizing and encouraging them in the development of their faith and service within the church.
- Identify key transition times in the life of the family and develop programming that provides training, encouragement, and follow up for each identified milestone
- Commit 2-3 hours weekly to offsite contact work that will build and strengthen relationships with youth through direct involvement in their culture.
- High School Sunday School
- Sunday Night Youth Fellowship (middle and high school)
- Wednesday Night (during Ignite only – middle and high school)
- Recruit, train and inspire volunteer leaders to be able to help in the following areas:
- Facilitating small group discussions
- Preparing and teaching lessons as needed
- Organizing and planning trips
- Reaching out to youth on bi-weekly basis (or more if necessary) through phone calls, post cards, texts, Facebook, etc.
- Administrative duties
- Create ways in conjunction with Director of Music to integrate youth into worship leadership
- Organize, plan, and lead youth activities, trips, and special events:
- Yearly mission trip
- Yearly high school conference / retreat
- Yearly middle school conference / retreat
- Fundraisers for above named trips
- Serve on Christian Education and Fellowship committees, attending monthly meetings and executing all committee related responsibilities.
- Attend weekly staff meetings
- Attend worship each Sunday
- Prepare and lead weekly lessons for youth with the stated purpose of worship, instruction, fellowship, and outreach in the following areas:
- Develop opportunities for positive mentoring relationships between youth and spiritually mature adult members
- Identify and develop educational and counseling opportunities to address relevant life challenges affecting teens and parents in the community. This could include topics such as eating disorders, substance abuse, stress, discipline issues, and communication.
- Work with the Fellowship Committee to provide enrichment opportunities
- Social Events for Singles and Families
- Marriage Retreats
- Annual Retreats for Singles and Families
- Coordinate with the Mission Committee to identify local and global mission opportunities for intergenerational groups.
Qualifications:
- A strong faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord and a commitment to the proclamation of God’s Word to a hurting world
- A passion for working with youth and families
- Background and understanding of Family Ministry
- Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university; Seminary education preferred
- Prior youth experience or educational background preferred
- Strong relational and interpersonal skills with both youth and adults
- Fluent technical skills (can easily navigate e-mail, Facebook, texting, etc.)
- Strong communication and organizational abilities
- Able to delegate responsibilities and supervise volunteers
- Self motivated
- Able to work well with others in a team environment
- Missional focus
